Fleet Driver Training Programmes

Our Fleet Training Programmes are designed to focus on changing driver attitudes and developing awareness, not just during the assessment period but for life. By focusing on observation, anticipation and creating time and space to deal with hazards your drivers will become safer. The benefits can be measured over time in the reduction of incidents, savings on fuel and vehicle maintenance. We are able to offer the following fleet training programmes, if none of our standard courses is quite right for your organization we will willingly write a course to match your requirements:

  1. Fleet Driver Risk Assessments: - completed in the driver's own vehicle. Each assessment lasts for around one and a half hours although the time can be increased should your needs call for that. Assessment is normally carried out as a one to one session and while the driver is not working. Two to one ratio or on the job assessment can be arranged if that is the best fit to your individual needs. We will conduct an eyesight and driving licence check, then discuss vehicle safety checks including what is and then what should be checked, how and when to make these checks ensuring vehicles remain road worthy and legal. Each delegate is then asked to drive in their normal style. During the assessment feedback is given on performance and all driving faults are analysed. A written report is compiled after the assessment and then forwarded for your consideration at a later date. This report will identify any dangerous driving styles; have a risk assessment of low, medium or high risk drivers along with advice on how to reduce risk. A certificate will be provided for each delegate producing a medium or low risk drive.
  1. Fleet Driver Risk Assessment and Coaching: - This programme includes all of the above but starts with a short laptop presentation designed to raise awareness of occupational road risk, and allows for further time to be spent looking at any areas of risk. We will address Eco driving skills to reduce fuel consumption and parking and manoeuvring procedures using a coaching style suitable to the drivers learning style. Whilst priority is given to reducing risk by addressing any areas of weakness within the drive. Often there is time to look at the drivers strengths and introduce and develop advanced driving skills. Emphasis is on hazard awareness, observational skills along with the creation of time and space to effectively manage risk. Training can again be either 1:1 or 2:1 depending on your individual needs. If training is provided in pairs there is increased time for training as we do not have to return as early to the venue, and only have one presentation to complete. This allows a more varied route to be covered which can provide a much wider opportunity for the coaching and improvement of the driver’s skills. In addition both drivers learn from each other as they watch their colleague drive and participate in the feedback process. This programme’s benefit can be evaluated by comparing the number of incidents before and after training and the benefits of fuel savings, reduced vehicle wear and tear can be enjoyed.
  1. Eco Driving: - Fuel economy is becoming more and more a requirement as companies struggle with rising fuel bills for their vehicles. Diving style is very important and your drivers will be coached to develop a style which can help the environment by reducing emissions and decreasing fuel consumption. A brief written report is presented to the company outlining what has been achieved during the course and an action plan outlining how the driver can further develop his or her skills. (A suitable vehicle with resettable on board computer will be required for this course.)
  1. Presentations and seminars: - can be provided for any road related subject, courses on speed awareness, driver safety and driver improvement tailored to meet your companies own individual needs.
